1 How do our assumptions about children shape our attitudes to and ideas about children`s literature and, as a consequence, the types of books that are written published and purchased for children?
Nodelman, & Reimer (2003) perceives children as weak and naïve, people who can be easily influenced by the content and images they view in the books and who needs a considerable care. This idea has really influence the publishing of children`s books which requires simple texts, bright and colorful pictures to be more appealing to them. Publishers also seek to have short and have a happy ending in order to discourage frustrations. It is also evident that majority of children responds well to life fantasies, particularly to stories with pictures and text of animals who behaves like human beings. It is also advisable to produce books which children can easily relate to, stories about an illustrative and childhood experiences and not of an adult experience. However, it is not advisable to include sexuality and adult life experience, since children will not be able to relate well with them.
