The effect of sugar on the health of individuals has been an issue for discussion for quite sometimes now. There have always been claims everywhere from the media to the health governing bodies that sugar consumption is responsible for the obesity cases, increase in cholesterol levels and even increase in the blood sugar levels. There has however been no clear evidence to ascertain these claims. Even scientists themselves have not been able to clearly determine whether sugar in itself is a threat to healthy living so that it is responsible for weight gain hence obesity (O'Connor, 2015). This article has helped shade light on these claims as it has determined that cutting on the amount of sugar consumed is a step towards practicing healthy life practices (O'Connor, 2015). Healthy life practices help cut on both individual and state spending in trying to treat the complications that would have otherwise been prevented by simply changing what people chose to take in as food.
Children, and most specifically the adolescents, are faced with a myriad of metabolic issues. This problem is augmented by the lack of knowledge of what causes such complications. Most of the foods available today have added sugars, which this study has identified to be the leading cause of the metabolic issues mentioned (O'Connor, 2015). The study having evidently brought it out that added sugars are the cause of the diseases that the society is trying much to deal with, the risk, population should be educated on the foods that they need to consume.
