Description of the assignment, task, content and structure:
Purpose of the Assignment:
The purpose of this assignment is to develop an Implementation Plan for the idea that your syndicate
group recommended in Coursework 1. This must be from the specific perspective of your allocated
functional area/department. You will also reflect on your experience of group work on the module.
Briefing:
This is an individual assignment, which contributes 70% of the total available marks for this module. It
comprises two parts.
It is not necessary for this paper to take account of any individual feedback received from coursework
one, although general guidance based on all coursework one submissions will be given in the online
briefing session.
Part A is an Implementation Plan for the best investment idea recommended by your syndicate group
in your Investment Case (1500 words maximum). You should write the Implementation Plan for the
specific functional role that you have been allocated. The Implementation Plan is to be written for the
executive team at Inside/Out Hotels. The focus of the plan should therefore be on ensuring that your
functional department adequately plans to contribute to the implementation of your group's
recommended idea.The total budget for your allocated function is $25 million.
Part B is a Reflection on your experience of working in your syndicate group during the module (500
words maximum).
The Implementation Plan and Reflection must be submitted as ONE document in Microsoft Word
format.
Part A: Implementation Plan - Expected Content
Your Implementation Plan must include the content below. However, through background reading you
will need to assess the precise requirements for your plan as the content will differ according to the
function for which it is written; as will the length and detail of each area covered. Unit 7 provides some
specific ideas to consider in terms of resource requirements for the different functions.
1. Overview of the Investment Idea being implemented i.e. the recommendation your syndicate
group made in the Investment Case.
2. A completed Business Model Canvas for the overall business idea. You should also discuss and
identify the impact of the business model on your function in particular.
3. Resource requirements, including allocation of the available budget.
4. Time plan showing key activities and events for your function.
5. Links and dependencies between your functions plan and the other three departmental plans for
your syndicate.
6. Milestones – key activities for your function, which must be hit at specific times.
7. Risk plan, covering the major risks with a particular emphasis on your function in the context of
the overall business idea.
8. Stakeholder plan, with a particular emphasis on your function in the context of the overall
business idea.

Part B: Expected Content - Individual Reflective Brief
This should be a reflection on your experience of the group work up to the submission of the Investment
Case.
You must use and reference at least one of the reflective models taught on the module e.g. Gibbs’
Reflective Cycle or 5R’s.
Your reflection should be referenced as per the Harvard System.
Word Limit: 500 words.
Specific Instructions:
1. Carefully re-read Appendix A: Briefing Pack: Inside/Out Hotels and the Investment Case
developed by your syndicate group.
2. The total word limit is 2,000 words which excludes the following: title page, contents list,
references and the contents of any table or diagram and words used to label graphs etc.
This comprises a maximum of 1500 words for the Implementation Plan and 500 words for the
reflection.
3. Remember this is an INDIVIDUAL assignment. You must write your whole submission by
yourself and any instances of copying or plagiarism will be investigated and severely penalised.
You should work on your plan independently and are not required or expected to contribute to
writing the sections being prepared by your fellow syndicate members. However, there are key
dependencies and links between each of the business departments so you may wish to discuss
these links as a team so that your implementation plan reflects the full business requirements.
However, assumptions are perfectly acceptable as well. You should complete the Business
Model Canvas section individually.
4. Uncertainty Events: You must demonstrate that you have adapted to the ‘Uncertainty Events’ 1
and 2, released prior to the Coursework 1 deadline.
5. Referencing: You should seek In-text citation and a full reference list at the end of your report is
required. You should reference both industry and academic sources, as well as the Inside/Out
Hotel briefing document, if appropriate, using the Harvard referencing system. For example,
industry sources should be used to support the explanations and justifications for the feasibility
of your ideas, whilst academic references can be used to relevant theory or models that support your arguments. We would expect to see at least 12 references.

Part A: Implementation Plan
Idea Overview
The proposed investment idea, The Upgrade (aka ‘upgrade’), is based on rehabilitating Inside/Out Hotel's Mexico City property from a 2-star to a 4-star luxury hotel. This campaign focuses on the core markets of families, youths, corporate clients, and senior travelers because of an opportunity to tap into affordable luxury, product differentiation, and better service delivery. Mexico City was chosen because of its strong tourism market: the number of international tourists rose by 10.8% in 2024 (Mexico News Daily, 2024) in connection with the cultural offer development and a slight increase in economic performance. This aligns with expectations since the launched product will attract many tourists during the spring break 2025. This project will aim at rehabilitating 500 rooms, integrating Infrastructural betterments that embrace the internet's widened bandwidth, and installing smart TVs, a complimentary restaurant, and a conference hall to suit the corporate and vacation traveler.
One of the most important advantages that would stimulate people to support this idea is its overwhelming market fit. The revenue generated by tourism in Mexico City in 2024 increased by 36.3% (Goytia, 2024), which testifies to high market penetration potential. From a quantitative perspective, the investment is expected to yield higher returns on the back of improved occupancy levels and premium pricing. In qualitative terms, it will improve Inside/Out Hotel's brand image because the company will satisfy the increasing clientèle base seeking affordable luxury. However, the implementation plan must incorporate constraints introduced by uncertain events; for instance, it should reduce renovations from 800 to 500 rooms because of budget reduction and change the company's focus from Europe to Mexico because of the divestment of European properties. Additionally, the new organizational structure would utilize a rigid structure in order to ensure quality between departments, given that this strict organizational structure is more suited for quality control and maintenance (Khalil et al., 2024).
This implementation plan aims to effectively translate this transformation project into tangible terms on the ground within the set budget and time frame while employing valuable strategic assets and stakeholders' engagement. For this reason, a small map showing the hotel's position and the location of major tourist attractions in Mexico City has been provided.

Carter and Cater, (2020) define The Business Model Canvas (BMC) as strategic tool meant to map aspects of the business model, clarifying how the business will create, deliver, and capture value in the eyes of the targeted market for 'The Upgrade.' These stakeholders are the value proposition, the innovative market segments, key activities, customer relations, and, finally, the financial streams.
Value Proposition: Every aspect of the Upgrade proposal is designed to give guests a higher level of comfort by offering the finest features and products in the new rooms, which are superior to typical rooms for families, millennials, businessmen, or mature tourists. The introduction of the conference hall expanded the consideration of businesspeople to include other customers such as corporate clients.
Market Segments: The project aims to identify and analyze growth opportunities in the tourism sector of Mexico City, emphasizing the Spring Break period and Mexico City's status as a cultural and business center.

The BMC also outlines relationships between operational and marketing activities, with the effectiveness of implementation being contingent upon integrated cooperation. For example, marketing strategies must fit operation schedules to increase the number of guests after the renovations (Khalil et al., 2024). In addition, the section of the BMC titled 'Supply Chain & Procurement' stressed the value of achieving cost-effective solutions in the procurement process and the selection process of contractors.
