In all phases of the health care process, communication is a key component. Whether the clinic shares patient information properly with other facilities or a group of physicians, nurses, specialists, and other staff in a hospital discusses how current and incoming patients may be treated, the necessity for concise and efficient communication in healthcare is always there. Organizations with excellent communications policies may enhance the health of their patients, while patient welfare cannot be adversely affected by those without appropriate processes. To prosper, health practitioners and institutions must realize the value of healthcare communication.
Better ways of communication will help patients as well as health care providers. Effective intrahospital and interhospital communication is vital to safeguard patients, reduce expenses and improve daily operational efficiency. Meanwhile, patients will benefit from more access to their health records, therefore reducing medical mistake opportunities (Arnold, 2016. 88). When discussing the importance of communication in healthcare, patient safety is one of the main reasons every healthcare company should have an efficient communication system. Missing communication is usually a primary cause of death in hospitals. Although communication errors can have serious effects, they are generally very straightforward to correct, preventing many patient fatalities due to communication errors. This is one of the main reasons why communication is so crucial for the safety of patients.
Barriers to effective communication between patients and their caregivers
Time constraints
In a pressure ward or clinic, conversations between patients and nurses can be slowed or stopped because other patients need emergency response or pain treatment, for example. For patients who may feel ignored, this may become frustrating. You must explain to patients why you have to leave when disruptions occur. Patients might worry about being embarrassed by employing inadequate anatomical conditions or body functioning.
