COMPARISON OF THE FILMS DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD AND LET'S BE COPS
Introduction
Films are part of human life. It certainly makes sense to say human life is not complete without entertainment, education, and a source of information where films provide all of them. Different films, however, play different rules depending on many factors. Others share the same functions but with different settings. This article compares the two films Dora and the Lost City of Gold and Let's Be Cops.
Plot
Dora and the Lost City of Gold is an American adventure comedy that was produced in the year 2009 by Nickelodeon. The film set is in the jungle in Peru where an explorer family, Cole, and Elena, live. The movie features Dora who has a monkey friend, Boots. Her cousin, Diego, left for with his parents for the city while she was only six but they later catch up ten years later. Back in the jungle, Dora is endlessly looking for the underground city of Parapata that is said to be full of treasures. When Dora was ten years old, her parents sent her to Los Angeles to stay with Diego's parents and school with him in Diego's high school. Dora and other students are abducted by mercenaries while on a school trip and are airlifted to Peru to the lost city of gold. They solve a puzzle and finally get into the city. They met Alejandro, who is a friend to Dora's parents, who helps them but later falls into trouble when he tried to steal the treasures in the city (Nahdhiyah, 2017).
Let's be cops is a 2014 action comedy film too that features Ryan and Justin. The film was shot in Atlanta. The two schooled together but were not sharp in class, and their current lives are not any stable. Justin is a video game developer while Ryan is unemployed. Their classmates arrange a reunion party, and the two decide to put on clothes that resemble police unions as the party attire. After the party, the public treats them like real cops, and they decide to continue the 'joke'. That first night as fake cops Ryan and Justin meet the gang that hit their car as they left a bar at the start of the film, and Justin and Ryan decide to revenge on them. Notably, Ryan decides to buy a police car from eBay and continues the act of being a fake cop. He decorates it to resemble a real LAPD car. Ryan takes his quest to become a cop into YouTube, where he downloads tutorials practices to perfect the art of being a cop. He convinces Justin, who reluctantly accepts to continue masquerading as cops (Pinkerton, 2014).
In one of their many errands as cops, they meet real cops, and things get heated. Justin gets so much scared on realizing how much jail term they would serve if caught. Just as he was contemplating quitting he gets a phone call from Josie about a guy who was harassing her at work. They went to punish him but were shocked to realize that the guy was Mossi, the leader of the gang, and there is nothing they could do about it. Ryan, with another friend cop, decides to look for evidence to jail him. Justin takes an undercover operation on the premises of the gang where he accesses the underground where everything is kept, including SWAT attire. That was the evidence that was required. Justin suggested that they should just make the evidence to appear to be originating from an anonymous source, but Ryan insisted on delivering it himself. He delivers the evidence to the police boss after Segars directed him to the boss only to realize that the boss was the business partner they saw a while with the gang. He leaves the police station disappointed and decided to go look for Justin, but he is followed by snipers and gang members who want to kill him. He escapes and communicates with Justin to tell him not to show up in their apartment since they were being hunted (Hermansson, & Zepernick, 2019).
Justin goes to the tunnel to try and save Ryan, who was already caught up in the tunnel where he was being held together with the detective. Mossi decides to kill the detective first before killing Ryan. The fight ends up with Ryan and his team winning against Mossi who went jail for handling military and war equipment.
Theme
The general theme that is contained in the film Dora and the Lost City of Gold is the value of friendship and working together. It is only through working together and brainstorming that we will get successful. While in the jungle, Dora and her group are faced with a challenging puzzle to solve that will lead them into the lost city of gold. They, however, worked together in unison and solved all the puzzles, and that is how they ended up finding the way to the lost city (Pinkerton, 2014).
It is also important to note that as we strive to be together and work as a group for the better good of everyone, some are in it but pretending. Alejandro worked together with Dora and her team, but in the end, he was locked up in prison. He betrayed the team and even wanted to steal the treasures. In the spirit of friendship exists, those who also want to be on top of everything and that all the credit goes to them. Such people also existed in the film Dora and the Lost City of Gold. While in Los Angeles school, Dora had one of the girls who did not like to be beaten academically. She gives Dora a stern warning that no one beats her when Dora beats in a quiz. This is a symbol of the challenges that we are likely to face in our daily lives. Furthermore, just as Dora did not despise her and later became friends, in the end, it is just how we should view our problems and challenges. It is the only way that we will emerge victors (Nahdhiyah, 2017).
The central theme is, let's be Cops; on the other hand, tells us that everyone's life has a turning point. The main actors, Ryan and Justine, were losers in life so to generally speak. Justin was a video game developer who was looked down upon by his boss since he could not deliver anything tangible. He proposes a video game that uses police attire, but his boss quickly brushes off the idea. Ryan is cannot even secure a job. The two, however, experienced a major turnaround in their lives and achieved a major milestone in their lives of bringing down a money and weapons syndicate ...
