Interior spaces are redesigned for Airbnb functions while retaining heritage features. Landscaping and accessibility enhancements ensure the building’s operational functionality and aesthetic appeal. Time The project commences on 20 June 2025 and concludes on 19 May 2026, spanning 12 months. Phases include initiation, planning, execution, and handover. Each milestone, structural reinforcement, restoration, system installations, and interior work, follows a carefully managed schedule. Regular progress reviews ensure on-time completion and effectively address unforeseen challenges. Cost The total budget is USD 5 Million, funded through private investments and government heritage grants. A. Project Plan 1 Background The chosen building is the old Changi Hospital, a colonial-era hospital at 24 Halton Road, Singapore. The building was constructed in 1935 by the British Royal Air Force and features whitewashed walls, louvered windows, deep verandas, and an elevated three-story design characteristic of early 20th-century institutional buildings. The building was used as a military hospital during World War II and then by the Singapore Armed Forces and has been vacant since 1997. Its reuse as an Airbnb-type heritage accommodation maintains its historical integrity and promotes sustainable cultural tourism.Minimal ornamentation includes decorative moldings, an arched pediment with an oval window, and a small wrought iron balcony, contributing to rich architectural diversity (Murtza et al., 2021). Years of tropical weather, sunlight, and pollution have caused structural cracks, corrosion, weathered window frames, and faded paint. The outdated electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems no longer meet modern standards. The project aims to restore the building into a Heritage Airbnb accommodation, preserving its architectural character while upgrading its functionality. According to Fahim and Mou (2024), preserving these buildings sustains the city’s cultural narrative while contributing to economic growth through heritage tourism. Tourists are increasingly drawn to destinations that feature authentic historical architecture, generating long-term financial benefits for local businesses and the tourism sector. Additionally, as Bullen and Love (2011) emphasized, adaptive reuse projects support environmental sustainability by minimizing demolition waste and preserving embodied carbon already invested in the original construction materials. Restoration efforts reduce the demand for new construction resources, lowering the project’s overall carbon footprint and promoting responsible urban development (United Nations, 2015).
