Views from Jade Terrace: Chinese Women Artists 1300-1912.
Women artists from China have long been portrayed to be better than their male counterparts. The Jade Terrace is a period when Chinese scholars assembled a collection of artwork, presenting eight centuries of written poetry. Jade Terrace is known as the best period that highlighted the artwork of Chinese women. The Qing dynasty between (1644 to 1912) presented a collection of volumes of artwork from devoted women calligraphers became known.[Fong, MH. An exhibition organized by the Indianapolis Museum of art displayed paintings of thirty-seven collections of artwork, showing the important aspect of the history of Chinese art. The exhibition brought to light art practices of three generations of active Chinese women between 1900s and 1970s. The event focused on the need to reassess female talent and virtue differently from how Chinese women social practices and cultural production were framed for centuries. With scarce records of women artists, the exhibition highlighted numerous Chinese women artistic achievement from 13000 to 1912. Most women artists were wives or daughters of professional painters, with some artists being individuals who served the royal families.[Ibid 33] [Ibid 35]
