Texas in America's Civil War
The 1860s America's civil war is among the most important wars ever experienced in the history of United States. The war resulted from conflicts among the states on ending of slavery. Some states supported slavery whereas others objected it and this resulted to divisions. States from northern parts were against slavery and wanted it abolished whereas the southern states advocated slavery so as to promote development of the nation. This division led to formation of the Union and Confederates states whereby the former consisted of northern states and the latter was made of southern states. Besides advocating for slavery, the Confederates supported rights to allow movement of slaves all over the country without them being taken off from the slave owners. Texas being a southern state took part in the civil wars and was a main player in the Confederates war against the Unions. This paper seeks to discuss actions of Texas State in the historical Civil Wars in United States.[37thtexas.org, "Texas in the Civil War," The American Civil War. (n.d) /html/broinarms.html (accessed July 04, 2014)]

The state had worked hard to join the Union and divisions between northern and southern states had high impacts. The northern states attacks to the southern states escalated and this coupled with election of the Abraham Lincoln was considered a threat to slavery that Texas supported. The Texans pushed for secession from the Union by pressing the Governor, Huston, to hold convention so as strategize the way forward for the state. However, Huston who was strongly committed to the Union as well as the Confederates did not pay attention to the Texan's demands. The secessionists held voting to withdraw Texas from the Union in 1861. Majority people voted for secession and formed convention that declared withdrawal from Union. Huston failed to take oath of allegiance to the new Confederates government and was replaced. The president offered troops to help Huston regain power but the latter turned down to avoid civil conflicts and retired till his death 1863.[Wooster, Ralph. "Civil War," Handbook of Texas Online. (2011). /handbook/online/articles/qdc02 (accessed July 04, 2014). Texas State Historical Association.] [Wooster, 1] [ibid, 1]
