Thesis Statement: Human faces are more variable than animals (monkeys, tigers, elephants, penguins, and giraffes) as we have evolved to look unique.
Introduction
Although commonplace today, the landscape became a distinct category in paintings and sculptures during the Renaissance. It was the time when artists started paying more attention to drawing trees, plants, flowers, and more importantly animals. In those days, there was no concept of using human faces as an object to draw, paint or design. Perhaps, many transitions were seen in the images that fused anthropomorphic landscapes. Finally, in the 15th century, a Netherlandish painting depicted how beautifully human faces can be drawn using some colors, patterns, and styles.
Why are Human Faces More Variable than the Animals?
A study conducted by Charlotte De Mille reveals that the genes are responsible for giving our faces a better look and make our facial features stronger to be painted than that of penguins, monkeys, elephants, tigers, and giraffes. It is one of the core reasons why human faces are used in paintings and sculptures to convey different messages. A large number of painters and artists, belonging to different parts of the world, tend to depict a story through their paintings and artworks. Using human faces as the medium, it becomes easy for an artist to create awareness among the audience regarding the value of his painting or artwork.
It is safe to say that human beings are phenomenally good at identifying emotions through images and paintings. There is a specialized part of the brain that helps us distinguish between any of the two paintings, depending on their colors, sizes, and overall presentations. According to Charles Harrison, it becomes easy for us to understand the true purpose and meaning of artwork if it consists of human faces. In one way or the other, the author tries to draw our attention to the fact that human faces deliver the hidden message of an artist more easily than animals and plants. Through his paintings, an artist wants to connect with the target audience, and for this, the best way is to use human faces in most of his works. From a scientific point of view, human faces are easy to recognize than that of animals and plants.
