We recently went live with our iMobile project which included implementation of mobile devices for communication and notification of alerts for staff at our surgical hospital as there was a critical need for this project as devices were implemented at our main campus but was delayed at our other campus due to the pandemic and limitation of resources. We had to account for the number of staff that would require desktop version of application versus a mobile device and submit budget for device allocation to division and corporate for approval. We also had to account for education resources which included allotment of resources for provisioning staff access to application, device set up, network verification and development of educational resources for staff. For go live had to allocated resources for support, and issue management.

The Gap
Hospitals are important institutions that overly deal with life and death situations daily. Cases of emergencies are many, especially in large hospitals. Given the many healthcare professionals working on 24-hour shifts a day, hospitals can only be believed to operate efficiently at the backdrop of a nuanced communication system. Noteworthy, the increase in popularity of long-distance surgery emphasizes healthcare workers’ need to uphold efficient communication in real-time. This feature means that communication systems adopted by any hospital must be reliable for the general good of the hospital and patients. However, the culture of having a good and sound communication system is lacking in most hospitals. According to Shahid & Thomas (2018), communication errors in healthcare centers arise from ineffective hierarchical reporting structure, cultural background, and social structure. Besides, the difference in communication styles in most healthcare systems is an ingredient to internal health crises such as delayed treatment and improper diagnosis witnessed in hospitals. In this vein, it is essential to institute a structured communication tool that will enhance efficient communication among nurse-patients, promote patient safety, and reduce adverse effects. The enduring problem of communication failures in hospitals highlights the business need to have mass notifications systems. This feature is ideal for both emergency communication and general communication.
Problem Statement and the Proposed Solution
The issue of communication is enduring in the American health care system. This assertion is fortified by increasing cases of medical errors and improper medical diagnosis towards patients. Noteworthy, poor communication in the healthcare sector is attributable to increased cases of unnecessary hospitals visits that at its best implicate the process of providing quality treatment because healthcare providers are overwhelmed by patients’ inquiries. This assertion is reinforced by the Royal and Kedrowicz (2017) study that concedes more than 130 million Americans make trips to the emergency room yearly. Noteworthy, as many as 1 in 5 Americans visit emergency rooms 30 days after receiving care. The problem of communication in healthcare facilities is replicated worldwide and not in the United States alone. Pun et al. (2015) study conducted the efficacy of communication in Hong Kong hospitals. The results returned revealed that communication is a severe threat to proper medical treatment in Hong Kong. The majority of the 25 interviewed public hospitals recorded dissatisfaction with how the hospital’s management communicated care delivery and how the information related to their levels of understanding.
The identified gap is proposed to be solved technologically by implementing the mass alert system. This system will utilize software programming with facts and rules (Perri-Moore et al., 2016). In most scenarios, the if case programming feature will be of great use. For example, if a condition such as treating a patient is met, a physician is notified. These alerts will be delivered in several ways, including pop-up boxes and text messages that indicate the alert’s relevance and demand a quick response from either the patient or health provider. The majority of hospitals have adopted alert systems that have been crucial in assisting clinicians in providing care management. However, there is an urge to provide mass alerts and reminders to patients and physicians to achieve quality care. Perri-Moore et al. (2016) concede that alert systems are essential to the medical field because they offer timely and relevant information that has the potential of achieving positive health outcomes. Imperatively, they align with the hospital’s objective of delivering quality care. In this light of contention, the proposed solution of having mass alerts directed towards patients and physicians is likely to have significant outcomes. Patients will be positively impacted by understanding the time they are needed in hospitals and communicating on issues that seem complicated such as diagnosis and time to take one. Conversely, physicians and other health-related professio...
