The "Diffusion of Innovation" (DOI) perspective developed by Rogers in 1962 is one of the earliest social science ideas. The theory emanated from communication to elaborate how an item or an idea acquires momentum and diffuses via a specific social system with time. Eventually, people adopt the new view or product, making them do things differently from what they did initially. Adoption requires that individuals perceive the behavior, idea, or product. Researchers have established that people who embrace an innovation early behave differently from those who adopt it later. When a person decides to promote an invention, they should analyze the population's traits that might hinder or aid them in adopting the innovation. The four diffusion elements incorporated in the invention procedure include innovation, communication channels, time, and the social system. This discussion evaluates airplane innovation utilizing Rogers' theory to critically discuss the airplane invention.
An airplane is crucial due to its fastening of the transport of multiple products and groups of people. Although this machine was invented in the early 20th century, it remains one of the core transport models used globally. As evident in Rogers' argument, the airplane was diffused into society immediately after it was invented. Orville Wright and Wilbur came up with the idea in 1903 (Bellis, 2021). The inventors closely followed Otto Lilienthal's research by working on various mechanical projects and maintaining scientific research. After Lilienthal's demise, the Wright brothers began their experiments with flight. They intended to create a new mode of movement that would take place in the air using their knowledge of aviation matters. When designing the plane's wings, they borrowed from the idea of how birds fly by balancing their wings.
