Being a leader is a difficult task and should be approached cautiously. This means that leaders take on significant responsibilities and must remain steadfast in their decisions. For this reason, ancient thinkers focused on good character as a prerequisite for leadership because they required that their leaders had to be moral individuals who could guide the people (Bauman, 2018). Leaders were expected to act and lead in a way that is not just for themselves but for their people.
Ancient thinkers believed that taking the moral course of action made a person more likely to succeed, but the leadership had a responsibility to make these decisions. Ancient thinkers knew that they should not rely on one’s morals and abilities to succeed as a leader because no matter how strong one’s morals are, they would have their element of doubt (Busari et al., 2019).
