Other groups in Washington D.C or specific immigrant communities across host cultures tend to group physically and residentially, feeling that their distinctive cultural traditions are better preserved by being away from the mainstream community. Racism has been thoroughly entrenched in the legal system of the state. Such segregation denies the oppressed group or groups civil and political rights and significantly impacts individual living situations.
Women, members of castes, and various religious communities, among others, have all faced the injustice of this sort throughout history. It has frequently sparked furious challenges for equal rights, such as the women's suffrage movement and the American civil rights movement, which rose to national prominence in the 1950s(Trent, Class 6).
