The Tuskegee Syphilis experiment, which the American public health service conducted between 1932 and 1972, was a clinical study tailored to ascertain the cause of untreated latent syphilis in 400 Black American men in Tuskegee. The ethical dilemma that emerged in the study was the lack of informed consent because African American men from underprivileged households were utilized as test subjects (Tobin, 2022). The respondents were enrolled based on deceptive assurances of special free treatment, which entailed spinal taps performed without anesthesia to examine the neurological impacts of syphilis. The participants were also not informed of the implications before taking part in the study. When the study ended, 128 men died from syphilis, and their wives were infected with syphilis.
