Tokens
Tokens are a type of skewed group that is treated as the representatives of their category. They are usually perceived as symbols instead of individuals. In addition, tokens can be solitary people or ‘solos,’ meaning that they are one of their type present (Kanter, 1977b). For instance, in the 18th century, women in managerial levels in the Industrial Supply Corporation was less than 10%.
Tokens experience numerous situations or challenges in their workplaces. Specifically, it is difficult for tokens to create an alliance that can be powerful in the working environment (Kanter, 1977). Females have suffered tokenism for an extended period in various sectors. Indeed, it has taken centuries for them to be recognized as professionals in different fields of their expertise. Even today, some organizations do not recommend hiring females in specific fields, particularly for technical jobs that require high-level commitment and availability.
