Introduction
This is a Canadian documentary film that provides criticism of the current days` state of corporations. It stipulates the legal class of individuals as a class of persons and assesses their conduct towards their community and the world at large compared to a common person (Bakan, 2003a). The movie depicts the process of developing modern business corporation from the perspective of a legal entity. This emanates from a State-chartered institution with the purpose of implementing particular function of the public to ascend of current commercial institution entitled to the most of legal rights of a person. In this essay, the film will be used to analyze the Las Vegan life in relation to the themes presented in it.
Origin of the central problem in the movie
The central issue with the movie originates from the examination of the business practices which are compared to the symptoms of psychopath. Corporation disregards other people`s feeling, it has the incapacity to sustain good human relation relationships, it does not regard other people`s safety and that constantly corporations lie about their profits to deceive investors. Besides, the corporation has no capacity to feel guilt and constantly it fails to kowtow to the societal norms and value for the law. Corporations` managers are constantly compelled to maximize the owners` wealth in an attempt to fulfill their own interests. At times they are obliged to disregard other people`s interests in pursuit of their benefits unless in circumstances that the interest are beneficial to their pursuits. Sometimes the corporations would like to deceive people that they could be trusted in behaving socially responsible by working for the good of the public. As much as some do work for the good of the public, they only do so by anticipating some benefits like improving their image and acquiring more clients.
How Functionalist, Conflict and Interactions ideas manifest in the films
Corporations try their best to instill among the people that they can be relied upon to self regulate the market pressure in an effort to disregard government`s efforts in regulating the markets. They make the public believe that government strategies are not necessary and that they should be government`s partners. In real sense this would mean having equal rights while this can never happen. The truth is that the government does create the corporate entity and do control the corporations and hence has the authority to call up the charter.
The government on the other hand has the weakness of illusory. They do incline more to the side of the corporation hence authority has been delegated to into safeguarding the corporations` interests as opposed to the public interests.
