The Leader’s Calendar
The leader’s calendar is also referred to as also the CEO’s calendar. The article, The Leader’s Calendar, in the Harvard Business Review focuses on how the CEOs manage their time because of their task. The article notes that the CEO of a company engages with all the company’s stakeholders, such as the employees, customers, government, community organizations, and media. This is always a complex job. The CEOs have to ensure that all the resources are available to the organization. However, they are faced with an acute shortage of one resource, which is time.
The CEOs, therefore, have a special way of how they manage and allocate their time and presence for the effective performance of their companies. This is critical because CEOs who spend less time with their colleagues are seen to be out of touch with the company or ignorant of the activities going on in a company. In contrast to this, CEOs who spend much time in supervising and directing the employees will be seen and perceived as a micromanager (Porter and Nohria, 2018). Therefore, the CEOs need to balance how they manage their time because they are the spotlight of their companies.
