Is a growing presence of a Syrian diaspora, fleeing war, violence and rapidly deteriorating life conditions at “home,” affecting Syrian refugee identities, positively and/or negatively, in a new “home” called Germany?
1 Hypothes(e)s
Hypothesis 1:
Syrian refugees, mostly Arab-Muslims, encounter a hostile, inhospitable refugee place in Germany.
Hypothesis 2:
Syrian refugees, predominantly cultural, racially and religiously different, find increasingly difficult adjustment in and integration to assigned refugee shelters and homes in Germany.
Hypothesis 3:
Syrian refugees rely on community support and ad hoc help networks among fellow refugees to carry on and survive new political, economic, social and cultural realities in Germany.
2 Theoretical Framework
This research project is, primarily, informed by identity politics, power structures, and adaptation and integration mechanisms refugees find resort in to cope and survive. Tapping into
