Soylent Green is science-based, thriller, dystopian, and fictional movie directed by Richard Fleischer’. The great movie unfolds the future of New York in the year 2022, by postulating more than 40 million people along its busy streets (Höhler, 2016). In Soylent Green, the year 2022 is painted context with depleted resources, overpopulation, disappeared middle class, and the remaining people belong to the ultra-rich class. The changes which will have happened include industrial pollution, greenhouse effect, food inadequacy, excess heat and smog, congestion, hunger, and corruption, which will dominate the city.
This prediction, as contemplated by Soylent Green, is a mind-boggling speculation situation. At the same time, the source of their livelihood is reliant on water and Soylent Green, which is a high protein diet fictitiously cultivated at a depth of the seas. In the film, it is the Soylent Corporation, which is a monopoly, that manufactured the nutritional product called ‘Soylent Green‘ but during the investigations regarding the murder of a wealthy man called William R. Simonson, and it was found that Soylent Green food product is made out of humans. Fresh vegetables, fruit, and meat were reserved for the rich; the rest of the population a fed on synthetic nutrients, i.e., ‘proteins from soybeans and ocean plankton’ (Höhler, 2016)
Soylent Green was released in 1973 when the economic crisis was its peak in western history. The thriller is set in a dystopian New York City in the year 2022, as a representation of a post-industrial, natural resource-depleted society, in which the population faces unemployment, extension, housing, and inadequate food (Yates, 2019).
