Introduction
Social workers must respect the ideals and principles that govern their field. In their Code of Professional Ethics, the Singapore Association of Social Workers outlines six fundamental values: Service to Humanity, Social Justice, Dignity and Worth of the Person, Importance of Human Relationships, Integrity, and Competence. With the help of case examples, I will explain how I will operate following these social work ideals when assisting patients and their families.
Providing for Humanity
Social psychologists' dedication to improving people's lives and strengthening neighborhoods may be called their "service to humanity." Whenever it is related to my clients' welfare, I will always advocate on their behalf while providing them with all everything that they require to be successful in my position as a clinical social worker (Tegna, 2018). I worked with someone who previously lost his job and needed help making payments meet. I affiliated him with a local organization that provided him with resources and enabled him to look for work. The customer successfully kept his stable home situation and found new employment due to our partnership.
Justice for All
Social justice is the notion that everyone should have equal access to opportunities, benefits, and supplies, especially those considered undesirable or oppressed. As a social worker, I will attempt to eradicate prejudice, exploitation, and other social injustice. I collaborated with parents who had struggled with discrimination based on race at the elementary school their kids attended. I spoke out for them and worked with the school administration to create a strategy encouraging diversity and cultural awareness. Our efforts made the family feel appreciated and cherished, and the school environment improved to welcome families of all backgrounds.
Worth and Dignity of the Person
People should always be treated with dignity regardless of their past or present circumstances. As a social worker, I will encourage and affirm each individual's inherent worth and dignity.
