Throughout the book, the author gave an in-depth exploration of what is seen today as the principles of feminism. Hooks (1984) expressed her central contentions that the early ideals of feminism in most women during the 1970s believed. Unfortunately, they lack perspective and scope. The theory and practice of feminism then were so narrow that it all boils down to the lives of the selected group of women, the middle-class white women. These housewives were bored with leisure, life at home, and purchasing products that promised to make more out of life. This somehow started the fire to remove biases and widen the premise of feminism where the inclusivity for the women of color will not be ignored and left out of society.The first chapter defines the author’s perspective on contemporary feminism that narrowly revolved around women's privileged sector. Primarily without the input from the non-white and non-middle class point of view. The second and third chapter highlights the struggle to determine the widely acceptable definition of what feminism is and what it’s striving to achieve. Ultimately, to attain the elimination of sexist oppression and promote equality on gender, it focuses on the capabilities more than the sexual differences.
