Introduction
The Affordable Care Act and the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) are two of the most famous social welfare programs in the United States. Just like various other social welfare policies and programs, they aim to provide people with all basic facilities and educate them regarding how to fight for their rights. Not only this, but also these social welfare programs facilitate the poor and needy with free or affordable insurance policies, as well as provide them with great health and transportation facilities.
Reflection on the Affordable Care Act
For me, the Affordable Care Act, also known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) or Obamacare, is one of the best healthcare policies ever implemented by the Congress. In March 2010, Barack Obama came up with this social welfare policy with an aim to help the poor and needy get out of uncertain situations (Kowalski, 2014). I have seen that since 2010, a large number of uninsured Americans have benefited from this program, and improved their lifestyles.
A plus point of the Affordable Care Act is that Americans can enroll in its different plans without any discrimination (Kowalski, 2014). However, the poorly designed federal website has always caught my attention. I feel that after Barack Obama’s departure, no one ever bothered to check this website and update it according to the new rules and regulations of the country. Besides the website problems, I would have to admit that health insurance and excellent medical facilities have indeed been provided to over 7 million people so far as part of this social welfare program.
