`In the United States, the lives of people of color have been adversely affected by negative public perceptions. In the streets, these people are normally treated as suspects. In 2011, a study was conducted to determine how negative media representations were linked to low life beliefs among black people. For example, these representations are reinforced in print media, the internet, fiction shows, and video games shape the views and perceptions of the public towards the men of color. So far media has assisted in creating barriers towards the improvement of the society. For example in the 1967 riots, a lot of newspapers went ahead to exaggerate the events and failed to report on the underlying racial problems and the civil disorder (Donaldson, 2015).
