As per the study of Aithal and Kumar (2016), managing organizational behavior productively supports the leader to motivate employees, perform exceptionally to resolve complex issues, optimize organizational activities, monitor and control employees' behavior as per the organizational changes. Accordingly, leaders need to invest smoothly on maintaining organizational behavior to create a better business environment for standing out among rivals. Thereby, effective leadership, as well as actual organizational behavior, are pivotal for improving business performance and empowering strategy execution.
Reflection on my Working Experience at Walmart
Before learning the course of organizational behavior, I worked in Walmart as the sales team member where I have the responsibilities to achieve a targeted sale, limit team conflicts, maintain good interaction with customers, follow organizational culture, manage behavior and report to the sales leader about the overall performance of the team. I faced various challenges during the particular period because the company followed the tall and functional organizational structure, where the authority lies among the executive bodies to make any change in the corporate approaches. However, leaders adopt autocratic and democratic leadership style, which less likely to involve employees in decision-making and limit employee engagement at the workplace.
The primary concern of the company is to focus on the four factors; offer high value to customers, enhance business transparency and integrity, struggle for excellence and maintain respect for each other (Reich & Bearman, 2018). Henceforth, those values boost positive organizational behavior in the corporate environment and encourage employees to perform exceptionally in availing high compensation and benefits from the escalated productivity. After working for six months, I left the job because I found the leader coercive and autocratic, who commands us to follow his instructions without sharing our opinion to boost team sales.
The reason behind the respective decision was the skills gap for a particular job. Hence, I was not right in communication, decision-making, leadership, conflict management and problem-solving skills that further make me non-compatible for that job to show high performance. Along with it, the lack of engagement demotivated me to continue my job there. At that time, I have not understood the value of productive organizational behavior and effective leadership on employees. On the other side, enrolling the organizational behavior course offers ultimate opportunities to grow my career in the business sector with a strong understanding of the core concepts related to leadership with practical cases.
Organizational Behavior and Leadership
By considering the experience at Walmart and the course understanding, the most significant concept is to create practical leadership skills by adopting the situational leadership style. Maintaining organizational behavior is essential for creating a business reputation in the competitive environment which can be possible only with effective leadership. Thus, leaders are the one that shapes business values, culture, people attitude, control operational activities, define organizational goals, set a target and develop morale among employees for perform...
