People with Disabilities Author’s Name Institution Course Name Instructor’s Name Due Date People with Disabilities Introduction Persons with disabilities (PWD) make up a large part of the world's population, but their worlds and experiences are different and defined by other social structures and systems. This paper will, therefore, discuss these structures, describe strategies for engaging PWD, and review the operationalization of engaging strategies in human service organizations. It will also evaluate a social justice practice for improving PWDs' lives. The basis of the work is articles from scientific journals that shed light on the difficulties and possibilities of functioning belonging to the category. Social Structures and Systems Impacting People with Disabilities Oppression and Discrimination Social injustice and prejudice are rampant in societies and cut across persons with disability. These social structures involve social rejection, labeling, discrimination, and structural issues that affect the chances of success. Pugach et al. (2021) revealed that PWD suffers from employment, education, and health employment discriminatively, meaning that they remain marginalized in society, hence the continued violations of social justice (Pugach et al., 2021). Whether discrimination is based on race, gender, color, age, or nationality, it is essentially an outcome of ableism – a form of prejudice against disabled people that grants social and cultural preference to those who are non-disabled. Availability and Use of Resources and Services As will be seen, issues with the availability of basic facilities and services form part and parcel of the lives of PWD. Physical, economic, and social barriers also limit their chances of acquiring proper health care, education, and employment opportunities. For instance, most places and public means of transport are partially barrier-free and, therefore, restrict the movement and freedom of PWD. Artiles et al. (2021) research shows that PWD face many barriers to accessing health care and, thus, the need for policies that change the status of PWD to gain adequate access to health care. Rights and Legal Protections The relationship between legal frameworks and PWD is vital to determining the necessary rights for that population's inclusion in society. However, these legal measures could be more efficient within different geographical locations and nations. To illustrate, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in the United States has facilitated the recognition of PWDs' rights by eradicating discrimination and providing reasonable accommodation in several sectors (DeJong, 2022). Despite such legal reforms, human rights, especially women, children, and vulnerable persons' rights, remain wanting in enforcement and observance. Effective Strategies for Working with People with Disabilities Promoting Inclusive Education and Employment Social integration and, most importantly, employment for PWD can only be realized with inclusive education. The concept of inclusion means making needed adjustments and arrangements in a school setting so that children with disabilities have an opportunity to learn together with other children of their age. A literature review by Iezzoni et al. (2021) clarifies that inclusive education promotes the education of disabled persons alongside the general student population and enhances the learners' diverse learning environments for all students. Likewise, equal opportunities in hiring and accommodating employees with disabilities make them more productive additions to various ...
