Organizational Assessment
The institutional theory of organization is based on the premise that organizations are influenced by the external environment, especially by the social pressures (Suddaby, 2015). As such, the organization’s structures and practices have to be aligned with the external environment to meet the expectation of players in the external environment. This theoretical perspective is well applied at the City and County of Denver, and specifically the Department of Human Services (DHS), where I work. This department is concerned with providing assistance services to the people of Colorado to promote their welfare, and in most cases, the practices of the organization are influenced by external players such as the government, the community, and others who are interested in human rights.
