Natural selection is a concept that Charles Darwin theorized to explain the adjustment of organisms to their environment through a generational change of genetics. This concept is one among many mechanisms of evolution. Darwin's theory is quite straightforward, but it is often misunderstood if there is the lack of a good example.
One species that exhibits traits of natural selection over its years of existence is the whale. The whale is the largest sea mammal but according to the theory of natural selection, this species might have been at one point in its generation, a land animal. Genetic changes in the whale species are considered to be responsible for its current habitat (Consuegra et al., 2015). Whales are said to have undergone certain mutations that caused physical changes and made them more suitable for water instead of land. The most significant body part that seemed to have an influence on the whale’s natural selection was its nostrils.
