Interpersonal skills are vital in work stations, it has been noted that the skills allow team members to communicate effectively amongst themselves, with top management teams and all the stakeholders. Effective interpersonal skills allow individuals to develop sound social skills (Bauer & Erdogan, 2010). There are a number of communication models applicable in getting work done through good relationship with the coworkers (Smith, 2010).
Findings indicate that effective interpersonal communication skills are one of the valuable interpersonal skills; this is by allowing a two way communication with the seniors and to other coworkers (Bauer & Erdogan, 2010). Effective interpersonal communication skills are characterized with active listening to other parties and giving a reflective response. Effective interpersonal communications skills requires that team members listen to one another; body expressions emphasizes that the parties are reading from the same script through agreeing, disagreeing and nodding among other physical expressions (Bauer & Erdogan, 2010).
It is important to make a summary of what the other person has said to make sure that both parties have understood the context from the same viewpoint. Questions are always welcome to make sure that clarifications are tabled (Bauer & Erdogan, 2010). Effective interpersonal communication ensures that people working together have minimized conflicts of interest, by harnessing the work relationship. It is vital for each and every person in the workplace to understand the expected tasks and any adjustments that may rise basing on socialization and globalization (Bauer & Erdogan, 2010).
Surveys indicate that bad communication skills have resulted to lost jobs and losses on the part of the organization. An effective interpersonal communication skill ensures that respect is maintained among the stakeholders in the workplaces. Assertive communication skills gears at clear messages that are direct to the point (Smith, 2010).
