This historical nature of Child Welfare for Indigenous people has not be kind and continues to plague Indigenous communities. The historical policies that were put in place were for the good of the western agencies, please discuss ways in which Indigenous people can begin to reclaim their independence and move on from the western policies that have affected them in the child welfare field. You can discuss how to improve the ICFS agencies and describe a different approach or provide a discussion on what can be done to chnge what currently exists.

For so many years, indigenous children have been subjected to the horror of a government that considers them property for sale. Adoptive parents are forced to part with thousands of dollars for these children, and this dehumanizes them as it makes them feel inadequate. For them to build their identity and independence, the government should fully register them as soon as they are born.
