Understanding the relationship between nation-states is essential for any political scientist. It allows him to be able to understand the complex dynamics that govern international relations and how these relate to the overall development in both the domestic and the international sphere. In this article, the author would like to focus on an analysis of the relationship between the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf Cooperation Council. The Gulf Cooperation Council was primarily established as a way for improving the relationship between Middle Eastern countries of the Persian Gulf. Accordingly, the author believes that UAE’s relationship with the GCC is strategic for it fosters the improvement of its political dynamics with other member-states.
UAE’s Relationship with GCC Members
UAE’s relationship with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is essential for it is one of the countries that leads the policy coordination and response together with Saudi Arabia. Being one of the wealthiest members among the GCC, the country has prioritized the unification of the members in both political and economic fronts. One example of this was its (and Saudi Arabia’s) initiative to lead policy coordination for the creation of a customs union between the nations. Although some believe that UAE’s initiative in implementing ‘inter-gulf’ political changes to implement a single-currency approach is in line with its aim of enriching itself, the impact of these political changes could help foster better trade and political relationship between the member countries.
