Ethics provide a moral framework that guides the application of policies in the criminal justice system. In essence, ethics provide a firm foundation for equal representation and seeking justice using the proper channels. Ethics is at the heart of the criminal justice system. For decades ethics have been the central determining factor for moral reasoning embraced in society.
The critical difference between ethical and unethical policymaking is anchored on morality. On the one hand, ethical issues are morally acceptable and bear acceptable principles, while on the other hand, the corrupt policy is considered unacceptable. However, these differences are not universally integrated into all societies.
The enactment of the truth-in-sentencing laws has caused an unprecedented rise in the length and the likelihood of imprisonment. With the continuous proliferation of this law in numerous states, victims of repeat crimes have been subjected to lengthy jail terms. Strict policies on crime have led to life-long incarceration as a form of punishment. Children incarcerated at a young age due to drug and violent crimes grow old in prison.
