Effective leadership means more than merely being able to meet the organizational goals of efficiency and profitability. Instead, being an effective leader also means placing utmost consideration of the well-being of one’s employees by fostering a safe and appreciative environment for them. While there are many ways in how a leader can make his employees secure and feel appreciated, some of the most effective methods are (1) increasing openness and collaboration between one another and (2) recognizing employees’ feats.
On the one hand, studies have shown that increased collaboration and open-ended communication between employees also increase their ‘perception of security’ within the workplace. According to Tucker, et al. (2008), perception of safety and security among the workplace, does not only depend on the rules and regulations of the company as well as the inclination of the leader towards security measures, but also of the employees’ perception of their co-workers’ actions.
