Mental health professionals should cultivate ethical behavior as part of contemporary standards of research practice. It is true that ethical mindfulness entails displaying moral attitudes at all times and being conscious of our actions especially when faced with ethical dilemmas (Sheperis, Young, & Daniels, 2016). A counselor can incorporate research into clinical practice by using research-based counseling experiences and updating their knowledge on the latest strategies to remain competent in her practice (Wosket, 2016).

It is true that contemporary standards of practices require detailed review of professional literature to understand new theories, clinical intervention and evaluate how useful and proper they can be applied within the routine clinical procedures. Contemporary standard practices need to understand the effects of these theories on both patients and the counselor. Detailed research is important before applying these theories to be aware of some of the expected outcomes (Sheperis, Young, & Daniels, 2016).

Obtaining an informed consent especially among children and persons with disabilities can be difficult. Additionally, researchers need to take precautions to minimize injuries by avoiding emotional, physical or social harm. According to the ACA code G.1.e, researchers are responsible for the participant's welfare during research period (American Counseling Association, 2016). It's advisable for researchers to seek consent from legally recognized persons and also comply with all regulations. Research can seek for ongoing consent when addressing sensitive issues to protect participants from unintended effects of the research (Francis & Dugger, 2014).

Mental illness varies, if participants cannot understand what the research entails; an informed consent needs to be obtained from legal guardians.
