B. Describe why these numbers are consistent with the information based description of asset volatility for each of the assets.
According to the model of the volatility, different asset classes have different volatility characteristics. Government bond index has the least volatility because the yield of bond only changes within a narrow range than other assets. Euro, as a foreign currency also has a small volatility because currency only reacts to less frequent country-wide and macroeconomic news.
Among all equity related assets, S&P500 index has the lowest volatility of 16%. This is because index has diversification effects. REIT Index has a relatively higher volatility because they are exposed to real estate sector. Brazil index has a higher index volatility because the emerging markets are exposed to more shocks. Tesla and MBIA have higher volatility because the individual stocks are exposed to more frequent and sudden shocks. Bitcoin has the highest volatility because it is purely speculative financial instruments under blurred regulation.
The use of chemicals as a weapon has been reported during biblical and modern times. The use of various toxic agents by individuals or states is intended to injure or kill the enemy. According to Majumdar (2019), in modern warfare, the use of various chemical weapons has been reported in World War I. The chemicals were placed in standard munitions like grenades and artillery shells, which led to a lot of harm inflicted on people. Further, anthrax has been used in various biological attacks since only a small amount is needed to infect a large number of people (Hillyer, 2021). Anthrax is labelled as a Tier 1 biological agent since the toxin present in it is capable of causing mass casualties. Therefore, the paper will discuss the proliferation of chemical warfare and anthrax.
To begin with, during World War I, Germany introduced the use of mustard gas on the battlefield, and this caused skin irritation and bad blisters. In World War I, phosgene was also used as a weapon, and this accounted for 85% of the gas-related deaths during this war (Majumdar, 2019). When this chemical was released, those exposed became asymptomatic for hours, and after some time, their lungs were filled with fluid, which rapidly caused their death. Additionally, chemical weapons continued to be used in 1930 during the vicious war against Ethiopia. Ethiopian villagers were attacked with mustard bombs; the major target was the unexposed skin. Consequently, this caused 15,000 of the total Ethiopian casualties during this war (Hillyer, 2021). Furthermore, chemical weapons were used by Egypt in 1963 in its war against Yemeni royalist forces. Some of the chemicals that we used included phosgene and mustard gas.
