Beech Brook
Beech Brook started in1852, with the founders aiming better the lives of vulnerable children through opening an orphanage. The journey towards realization of the agency started when Martha Washington and Dorcas Society established the Cleveland Orphan Asylum to cater for the needs of orphaned, vulnerable and destitute children (Beech Brook, 2013). The agency first took in eleven children who were housed in a rented House at the corner of Erie now East 9th Street. Nonetheless, towards the turn of the century, the orphanage was surrounded by factories, and in 1916, Jeptha Homer Wade, Jr. and his wife gave the Beech Brook farm to the orphanage (Beech Brook, 2013). The institution moved to its current location in the year on Lander Road in Pepper Pike However, by the late 1930’s it became increasingly clear that placing children in families was essential to their growth and development (Beech Brook, 2013).
The information presented highlighted on the history of the agency as well as its work in bettering the lives of vulnerable children. Furthermore, the article focused on the benefits of family integration in the lives of children. The article also stated how the agency serves children by offering mental health services. As a social worker, understanding how the Beech Book agency works is crucial as it guides one on what to expect in their line of duty. Trying to keep families intact before taking action is a first step to improve emotional stability of children as highlighted by the article Even though, the agency solicited for donation, there was little information on their sponsors or other agencies that funded the organization.
