Asian Americans are among the various immigrant groups in this nation. Statistically, roughly 22 million U.S. Asian immigrants can trace their originality to over 20 East and Southeast Asia nations (Ruiz & Patten, 2017). The high number of immigrants in the United States is identified as a recipe for possible discriminatory treatment, especially prejudice and stereotyping. Regardless of this, Asian Americans are treated differently, mainly because they are not as feared as immigrants from other regions. Based on Ruiz & Patten’s (2017) exploration of the Asian American population, it is apparent that they are treated differently from other immigrants since they are viewed as model minorities. The concept of model minorities is ascribed to the fact that Asian Americans are characterized by high educational attainments, low crime rates, high-income levels, and less dependency on welfare.
