Discussion 1:

According to Dictionary.com, "All roads lead to Rome" is defined as meaning that all paths or activities lead to the center of things. This was true for Rome because all the empires roads radiate out from the capital city, Rome. Vectors, scalars, displacement & distance are all measurements with a beginning and an end. If you follow each quantity, at some point a center would be reached at one point. This is especially true for vectors for instance because they always have a direction and magnitude, especially in relation to other points. These quantities get compared to others by using a central point of measurement.

Discussion 2:

The quote "All roads lead to Rome" Means that no matter what you do or where you go, you will always end up with the same outcome, or destination (Rome). This clearly could apply with vectors because a vector is a quantity that has both magnitude and direction. Vectors have a beginning, and also an ending. So no matter where you go with a vector, you will always reach an end point. In this case, the ending point is "Rome". An example for scalar would be mass, length, and speed. There is no direction with scalar quantities, only magnitude. So if you would relate this to the quote, you could understand that there is always a number associated with scalar quantities. No matter what you do to an object (mass) - there will always be an outcome (a number). Just like this quote, there will always be an outcome (Rome), hence all roads lead to Rome. The displacement would represent that an individual would like to get to Rome quickly and shortly, taking the quick route. Scalars have no direction, and they could represent any temperature, time, etc that could interrupt the trip to Rome. References: Dictionary.com Physicsclassroom.com/class/vectors/u3l1a.cfm

Discussion 1
The original meaning of the idiom "All roads lead to Rome" meant that there are many ways of achieving a goal or attaining a certain end in this case Rome. Therefore, Dictionary.com does not provide the original meaning of the idiom in lingual terms. However, since the discussion is on physics the modified definition is perfect as it allows the use of concepts of physics. The discussion in addition, before going ahead and utilizing the idiom it first provides the origin of the idiom allowing a reader to first understand its concepts and, therefore, comprehends any information that may apply such an idiom in physics. This idiom is useful when using directional units because "roads" have direction a characteristic found in vectors. However, the discussion fails where it applies the idiom to scalar quantities that have no directio...
