Using deception is a slippery slope that may lead to unwarranted effects of exposing a patient to unnecessary treatment that they may not need or some that may make their diagnosis worse. Therefore, a counselor should maintain their integrity and only note down the exact symptoms.
Laura: You are right Laura; it is unethical for a counselor to document false diagnosis. Such a deception, however much it may be to help a client, it can expose a counselor to allegations of fraud. A counselor may face criminal charges of falsifying documents. Hence, one should consider directing a patient to other programs that offer treatment that is affordable.
