Islam religion is not new. The religion is based on the rules given to Prophet Muhammad by Allah. The rules are compiled in the book called Quran and Allah is the name of God. Islam is monotheistic and Abrahamic. Many people if not all have their misconceptions about other religions that are not their own. However, these misconceptions may be altered in one way or the other. Religions such as Islam are significant in every society and they do influence the people of that particular society. The influence of the religion depends on the values of that particular religion. One religion may differ from the other but still there may be several similarities (Lewis, & Churchill, 2009). Therefore, the paper intends to address the Islamic religion in the light of the misconceptions about Islam and other religions, recommendation to minimize the misconceptions, the confession of the Islam people, the impact of religion on the lives of the people, and other religions in comparison with Islam. There are misconceptions about Islam just as it happens to many other religions such as discussed herein.
One of the major misconceptions about Islam is that women are inferior to men. This is so because a man can marry up to four women but a woman can marry one man, a man’ inheritance share is bigger than the woman’s, a Muslim man can marry a non-Muslim but a woman cannot marry a non-Muslim. These aspects seem to be unfair to the Muslim women. It might appear that the women are inferior to men before God. Many have viewed this as a way of despising women. However, Quran has a different view on this issue. It argues that the way of dressing is to protect the women from molestation. Additionally, Quran states that if both men and women do right in the eyes of God, God will equally reward them (Lewis, & Churchill, 2009).
Another misconception is that Islam is best suitable for Arabs. This misconception is because most of the Muslims are Arabs and are from Arab countries, and the fact that Quran is in Arabic. These aspects strongly put everyone else who is not a Muslim out of the bracket that Islam is a religion for Arabs. However, Quran clarifies that Allah had sent Muhammad to the world and not Arabs alone. The fact that Quran is in Arabic is because Muhammad the prophet understood Arabic at the time he wrote the rules.
Rejection of Jesus Christ misconception; The Muslims do not believe that Jesus is son of the Most Merciful. They believe that God cannot bear children and therefore consider it abomination to say that Jesus is son of God. However, they do not reject Him. They recognize Him as a prophet like Moses, Jacob, and Abraham. Furthermore, Islam is a racist religion. This is as the Islam nation preaches. Islam nation is believed to have emerged from a group of people who have borrowed ideas from Islam to come up with their own doctrines. They believe that the blacks are superior to other races of people and that Allah is a black man. However, the Quran states something different. It states that the men cannot perceive God for He is beyond the human scope of vision (Lewis, & Churchill, 2009).
Different people from different religions will always have misconceptions about other people’s religion. The reason for this is that people spend much time studying their religion but not the other religions. People believe on what they hear others say about a particular religion which may not be the truth. This therefore, will lead into deception of many about other religions (Gilsenan, 2000). Additionally, many people or many religious people have not taken time to teach the new believers and the non-believers the truths about the religion. This most definitely leads to misconceptions. However, some steps could be taken to minimize the misconceptions of religions. One of the major steps towards minimizing misconceptions is the religious education.
The religious people should take the initiative to educate both the believers and the non-believers. This will enlighten the people about other reli...
