It is very difficult for numerous people to live without any level of spirituality or religion. So much time, contemplation and money have been used up in religion. On view of ancient and precious buildings around the whole world bears great religious significance. These kinds of structures and building include cathedrals, ancient tombs, synagogues, and churches, and they thereby serve as some of the world’s wonders (Fisher, 1997). In fact, some people are willing to die for the sake of their religion, either in war like Muslims or persecution for Christians, among others. Religion also plays a great role in improving moral standards in a society, as it contains disciplines of what is right and wrong. There are various reasons of determining the usefulness of religion in the lives of human beings, both in the past and currently. All human beings are considered spiritual, which makes it hard for them to live without worship. There is a spiritual part of human beings that cannot be quenched by anything else but belief and worship of a deity or sovereign being. Moreover, man bears a spirit that cannot be fed or contented by the physical things, only the spiritual practice can fulfill the spirit. Regardless of criticism from atheists who disagree on it, religion has been able to stand the test of time and even some of the atheists became religious after plenty of evaluation. Many people around the globe have embraced some sort of religion and are even willing to take extra miles in abandoning their daily lives activities and prosperity to follow their religion. They put aside their promising careers as well as flourishing businesses in order to fully commit to religion. In addition, some people renounce their families, the world and everything else that belong to them in order to follow or suit in some religious paths or beliefs that require them to do that so that they can get closer to God. Lives have been lost through Holy wars that have been waged for the sake of religion. This further explains the importance of religion and the way in which it has been placed in high esteem. Religion is seen as more important than power, relationships, money, position, as well as property, among other worldly esteems (Blazer & Palmore, 1976). Therefore, it is notable undoubtedly that there is certainly a positive effect in following a certain religion. Every religion is considered perfect in its own way, and it teaches and practices the same basic principles and values. Various religious people undertake fasting, they also go on pilgrimage as well as neglecting their families and wealth for the purpose of following their religion. Others even sacrifice to die in faith that they will be accounted as holy because of this act and live happily eternally. In numerous cases, the specific individuals, without any guilt or coercion, make these sacrifices voluntarily or willingly. The values that an individual is taught since their childhood continues to be strengthened as they grow, making them more determined and stronger. Religion also helps to instill good values in children that later plays a great role in their development as worthy and responsible adults. Once people are introduced to a certain religion, they are usually ready to follow it and look for answers to numerous questions that are confusing. More so, people gain some peace of mind and contentment, seeking guidance through hard situations while turning to God for the solutions and everything else that they may require. Thus, religion performs the important duty of providing light to guide and direct people via the tunnels and aspects of life as well as bringing them to light on the other side.
