The retina plays a crucial role in visual processing. First, in its description, the retina is the light-sensitive tissue located at the rear of the eye (Mahabadi & Khalili, 2023). The retina is made of two types of receptor cells, known as the cones and rods, and the neural cells are connected to them. In relation to its positioning, the retina assists with the visualization process since it receives visual input, which it then converts into electrical signals sent to the brain. Additionally, the retina extracts visual features, such as motion, color, and contrast.
The conversion of light to neural signals sent to the brain happens at the retina. Specifically, the photoreceptors at the back of the eye are connected to the bipolar cells, which are then linked to ganglion cells, and their axons are the basis for the optic nerve.
