In research, there are two major types of samples, Probability and Nonprobability Samples. Probability samples are further broken down into four distinct samples (i.e., simple random, cluster etc). There are also four types of nonprobability samples as well.

Sequential Non-Probability Sampling Student’s Name Institutional Affiliation Sequential Non-Probability Sampling In research, since it is expensive and time consuming to conduct an analysis of an entire population, it is necessary to select a group of individuals to represent the whole population. This system of selecting is referred to as sampling. The two major types of sampling are probability and non-probability (Daniel, 2011). In probability sampling, the system of selection is not random, which means that individuals have equal opportunity to take part in the research. On the other hand, in non-probability sampling, the researcher gets to choose whom to select since the system of selecting is random. Although non-probability selection denies individuals equal opportunity to participate, it has several advantages that make it more suitable for this specific correlation analysis. The specific sampling technique for the analysis will be sequential sampling. This type of non-probability sampling involves selecting a certain group of individuals over a given period and then conducting an analysis. If the results are not satisfactory, the researcher can decide to pick another group and conduct another analysis (Babbie, 2007). This type of sampling gives the researcher the power to choose which group of individuals’ best fit the samples’ characters for the research. In the case of analyzing the relationship between number of drinking days and income, employees from six companies were selected. The decision of selecting the individuals is based on certain factors, which eliminate the probability of equal opportunity. For instance, not every individual in the community drinks alcohol and not every individual is employed and therefore, the system of non-random selection cannot be applied in this situation. The group of individuals who were selected for the analysis also had to visit specific bars, which were easily reachable by the researcher. This meant picking out the company employees who visited certain bars out of the many employees who drank alcohol. The sequential sampling technique enables the researcher to select such groups of individuals for convenience purposes. The sequential sampling technique is the best approach for various reasons. Sequential sampling allows for limitless options regarding sampling schedule and the size of the sample (Tavakoli, 2012). Depending on the researcher’s decision, the size of the sample can either be excessively large or relatively small.
