The science of happiness is relatively new. In the past, researchers have focused on studying negative moods or thoughts and their relation to mood disorders, but new interest has influenced researchers to study the effects of happiness on mental health. Being happy and positive can act as a protective barrier to mental illness.

People who are happy tend to have better relationships, careers, and physical and mental health than unhappy people. People are constantly pursuing happiness, but they also equate happiness to different things that may not bring ultimate lifelong happiness. For instance, some people equate happiness to money or material possessions; however, some people who win the lottery are no happier after winning. For this assignment, you will be discussing how one's thinking can influence their happiness.

People can define happiness in various ways. However, from psychology perspective, happiness refers to a personal-based emotional status recognized as a positive aspect that an individual ascribes to themselves. It incorporates several positive and cognitive emotional circumstances that trigger life contentment and keep away negative thoughts. The concept is linked to several elements, including better health conditions or fitness and a better social and economic position. However, several factors tend to reverse the critical connection with happiness. These elements include smoking, obesity, grief, etc. Genetics is also a unique and undeniable factor influencing a person’s happiness (Rezaee et al., 2016). Despite the existence of these factors, moderating their occurrence can enhance happiness significantly. According to positive psychology, a phenomenon largely focused on comprehending human happiness, happiness is considered a principal aspect of human life.
