Racism Essay Name University of the District of Columbia Date   1 ]According to how you described “Racism” on paper in class, what can you propose or recommend eradicating it or removing it, from all systems of human interactions over the next ten years? Revisit in your answer a prelude that describes exactly what you think ‘Racism” is? Racism is a form of prejudice against people of other races, and the dominant groups also exercise power and oppress the other groups. However, being in power does not necessarily increase racism even as structural, institutional racism is one of the most harmful forms of racism (Hoyt, 2012). Racism extends to stereotyping people of the diverse racial groups, and even the oppressed people do hold racist tendencies against other groups. Racism is a subjective term, but racists discriminate against different racial groups simply because they are different (Hoyt, 2012). As such, people are likely to be privileged or be excluded from the mainstream society depending on their racial group. One of the ways to tackle racism is for different people to be involved in tackling the problem. Even though, there are incentives not to eradicate racism if it benefits certain people, it is necessary to highlight the problem of racism and the media can highlight the problem. When people are conditioned to believe that attempts to fight racism targets them, they are less likely to support the anti racism measures. Merely removing symbols and statues that represent racism will not eradicate racism if there is no dialogue on the lack moral ideals associated with racist tendencies.   Acknowledging that discrimination and oppression are unjust as groups of people are subjugated is a good step to highlight racism in the public discourse. With the recent popularity of internet memes, there is no denying that people hide behind freedom of speech and expression to mock and denigrate different racial groups (Yoon, 2016).  What is seen as internet humor sometimes perpetuates negative images about communities shaping their perceptions.  The advent of the internet has allowed individuals to form internet groups and communicate to a larger audience, and this includes racists whose main agenda is spreading their views on their racial superiority. 2] Include in your response the influence of Religion on Racism and discrimination in contemporary America? Be sure to address the role of “Micro-aggressions” in the marginalization of human worth, and the power of the  media to evoke imagery and negative stereotypes of those ‘people’ from  different cultures, ethnic backgrounds or have diminished monetary  resources, and may speak a different language.  Attitudes towards out groups affect peoples’ perceptions and this is especially when have few contacts with those different from them, and are most likely then to rely on stereotypes (Omi & Winant, 2014). Despite religious teaching highlighting the case for loving our neighbors, in reality this is not always the case. Religion is one aspect that differentiates Americans as those who do not conform to the Judeo Christian ideals are considered ‘others’, but the message of reconciliation brings people together  (Yancey, 2002). As such, expectations about social conventions are also shaped by religion and those who are different are seen to threaten what it means to be American. it is working that some religious groups use religion to show that they are better than others including using abstract ideological symbols and rallying against minorities and especially African Americans for violating some cherished values In the U.S. Christianity reflects Euro-American Christian beliefs, and in an era where race has been politicized, the lack of interracial contact among religious adherents may worsen racial relations.  While religion teaches tolerance, the LGBT groups are seen as an out-group and evev religious individuals are likely to express hostile attitudes. The insistence on individual ethic in religion maybe associated with ignoring the effects of racism and social problems that worsen discrimination. Furthermore, microaggression been associated with intentional and unintentional racial insults based on stereotypes and is manifested as behavioral, verbal and environmental indignities (Sohi & Singh, 2015). The mass media has also perpetuated negativity towards minorities in their news coverage and framing stories. For instance, when reporting on African Americans the media tends to focus on aggressiveness and criminality. Making sweeping generalization still persists in the media despite insistence that the media is unbiased, and they tend to insinuate that white suspects have a mental problem. This perpetuates the stereotype that criminality is synonymous with blacks.  It is no surprise that even religious leaders are more likely to call fo...
