In the study by Ferro (2016), the researcher focused on the prevalence of mental disorders among adults with chronic health conditions aged between 15-30 years. Mental health and physical health affect the overall, but the relationship between the two is also sex-specific well-being. Research on the intersection of chronic health and mental health outcomes shows that it is likely that people living with chronic health conditions are vulnerable to deteriorating mental health.
A total of 5, 947 respondents aged 15–30 years, self-reported on chronic health conditions, and data were drawn from the Canadian population. The chronic conditions were categorized based on ICD-10 criteria and are “respiratory, musculoskeletal/connective tissue, cardiovascular, neurological, and endocrine/digestive.” There was also an evaluation of mental disorders based on the WHO Composite International Diagnostic Interview 3.0 (WHO-CIDI).
