Essay Instructions:
For this assignment, you will write one initial assessment request. Use the information included in one of the two case studies (i.e., mock client scenarios) below as the foundation for your initial assessment requests. Using the case study that you select, provide a 1–2-page essay response to each of the required sections below. In addition to the information provided in the case studies, use the materials provided in previous units and peer-reviewed, behavior analytic resources from the Purdue University Global Library to demonstrate that your recommendations in each section are based on relevant research literature and best practice standards.
These cases will also be used for the Unit 9 Assignment where you will be assigned to a case. It is possible that you will be assigned to a different case than you choose for your Unit 6 Assignment. Your instructor will assign you to teams for Unit 9 and depending on the number of people who pick a case and time zones of your classmates, you may be assigned to a different case.
Required Sections
Biopsychosocial History: Write a biopsychosocial history of the client and discuss the implications for behavior analytic services. Include a recommendation for the scope of behavior analytic services likely required for this client. Take care to include all of the information provided in the case study, but you do not need to add any other hypothetical information
Prioritization of Target Behaviors: Describe how behaviors targeted for change have been prioritized for assessment. This section should include an actual list prioritizing the target behaviors from the behavior(s) that will be assessed first to the behavior(s) that will be assessed last. Discuss the social validity of the prioritized list of target behaviors. (This section may include hypothetical information that is outside the content provided in the case study. That is, you may write in the past tense and pretend that you have used specific procedures to prioritize the target behaviors and confirm the social validity of the list.)
Proposed Assessment Sequence: Propose an assessment sequence for the client. Review safeguards that will be included to ensure that all assessments are conducted in an ethical manner. (Identify what components of a functional behavior assessment will be conducted, when, and why)
Case Study 1 – Mike Crafone

The school district noted that a four year old boy by the name Mike Crafone had a delay in growth and developmental. When the boy was two and half years old, he was enrolled in an early intervention program. However, Mike has not benefited much from the intervention program because of transportation problems. The intervention program did not help Mike since there was no Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to assess his behaviors. When Mike was three and half years old, the boy was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) by a pediatrician dealing with children developmental issues. The only thing that the pediatrician did was to fail in referring Mike’s mother to a health facility where she could get good help for her child. Besides, the treatment for problem behaviors is usually based on understanding the underlying health issue (Hanley, 2012). Through the help of a social worker from the pediatrician’s clinic, Mike was recommended to get Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services. Nevertheless, Mike’s mother was unaware of what are ABA services and only heard about them on the web. Mike depicts various behavioral problems, including squealing, hands flapping, using fists to hit his head, and banging his head on hard surfaces, leading to breaking his tooth. In addition, when in public, Mike usually free away from his parent, repeats what people say but does not do it, fails to produce words spontaneously, is a picky eater, and cannot engage in daily self-help activities, including wearing shoes. The child cannot use a toilet and request things by leading her mother with his hand to specific locations.
Here, are the recommended behavior analytic services needed for Mike. Since Mike was diagnosed to be autistic, the child needs a behavior analyst to help him overcome his problematic behaviors. The best place that Mike can get proper ABA services is after joining an intervention program. For example, Mike should be taught how to communicate effectively by using the right words instead of pointing to the things he wants. A BCBA should assess Mike to know his strengths and needs. That way, it will be possible to individualize ABA services. Mike can be assisted to overcome his developmental issues by implementing a functional behavior assessment (FBA) with a specific comprehensive procedure that meet his needs (Kilgus et al., 2017). In particular, using positive reinforcement can be beneficial for Mike since it can enable him acquire intellectual capabilities, foster social interactions, and positively change the child’s behaviors. The most significant thing about positive reinforcement is rewarding Mike every time he does things as instructed. Some of the things that Mike can be rewarded after doing, includes repeating words and doing what is required, speaking, engaging in daily self-help activities. Mike should be taught all the things that his age mates can do so that it can be easy for him to interact with them. Every good action that Mike does should not go unrewarded. Notably, a positive behavioral support (PBS) is an effective ABA type that can help Mike to eliminate problem behaviors. The best thing about enrolling Mike into ABA service program is that he will adopt appropriate behavior that will help him improve as he grows. Moreover, Mike’s mother should be trained by the BCBA on how to handle her child to facilitate compliance with the treatment plan.
Target Behaviors Prioritization
Priority target behaviors for Mike should be determined to help him eliminate problematic behaviors. Children with developmental and intellectual disabilities, such as Mike, depict high-risk behaviors that can adversely influence their well-being and the quality of their lives.
