COVID and Anxiety In this unit, you are examining contemporary approaches to the treatment of psychological disorders. Labeling people with mental health disorders is not without its controversies. Receiving a psychological diagnosis can come along with stigma or even prejudice and bias that can be damaging to the person being diagnosed. It is important to look at the strengths and weaknesses regarding the use of diagnostic labels. Once people move towards treatment of their mental health symptoms, they are often faced with the decision of face-to-face therapy or telemedical therapy in our modern society. This can be an important decision for people to make and in some situations, they may have limited ability to make the decision, as opposed to it being made for them. This was certainly the case during the Covid pandemic when many people were forced to receive mental health treatment only online, and telehealth has become more and more commonly used since this time.
