Businesses have been experiencing massive changes in the way they operate. Therefore, organizations must implement various strategies to ensure consistent and effective performance. One important thing companies have been embracing is organizational structure. Organizational structure is a system that defines how multiple activities are fixed to realize a company's objectives, including roles, rules, and responsibilities. The system also evaluates the trend of data flow within the organization. An organization is essential in enabling the company to remain effective, focused, and efficient. As an external industrial-organizational (I-O) psychologist, I will help company ABC to implement a team concept in all production workers, including identifying the type of teams and developing a training program. Also, I will assist in ensuring the participants understand and apply training knowledge, assessing and evaluating the effectiveness of the training program.
Each manager will own four groups of eight workers, each comprising two employees. These groups consist of a typical team structure led by each manager. They include a project team, communication team, troubleshooting team, and self-managed team. The project team will focus on qualities (project management and functional skills. Moreover, the communication team will consist of communication and interpersonal skills. Alternatively, the troubleshooting team will have experience, technical knowledge, and problem-solving and creative thinking skills. The self-managed team will comprise self-motivation and interpersonal skills.
It is essential to ensure the team, including managers and employees, have the right skills to achieve the projected goals and ensure an organization runs smoothly and effectively. There are various training sets I can teach the employees and managers to ensure they can run an organization smoothly as an industrial-organizational (I-O) psychologist, including technical skills and compliance training. Usually, I-O psychologist focuses on the effect of work and non-work behaviors (Landy & Conte, n.d.). Thus, I would develop a technical skills training program for participants. In some cases, the employees can have the skills to carry out certain activities effectively. However, there is always room for improvement, particularly when jobs need certain technical skills (Priscila, 2021). Hence, numerous companies allocate a budget to preserve and enhance their workers’ technical skills. For instance, I would teach participants such as project planning, big data analysis, and quality assurance. These technical skills will be essential in improving work efficiency.
