The nervous system consists of the brain and the spinal cord, and in the event of a severe car accident, damage to the nervous system cannot be witnessed. Therefore, a specialized practitioner such as a neurosurgeon is supposed to perform various medical examinations and checks to confirm whether the nervous system was damaged or not during the car accident. Damaging the nervous system causes balance problems sin as earlier stated, the spinal cord is part of the nervous system. Additionally, damaging the nervous system causes numbness and pain in the body parts such as hands and feet. Another effect of a damaged nervous system is trauma, which affects the general functioning of the brain as well as the spinal cord.
Once an assessment is completed by the neurosurgeon, and the medical practitioner confirms that the patient suffered severe damage in the brain, the neurosurgeon will probably recommend therapy sessions with a psychiatrist to the patient. This goes a long way in helping the patient recover from the traumatic disorder. Medical attention is not enough for a full recovery to such patients whose nervous system was damaged. Nervous system damage can cause abnormal behaviors and irresponsibility. Therefore, therapy sessions will then help the patient recover from the traumatic experience hence enabling them to be responsible and behave normally.
A psychiatrist assesses the extent of the damage to the nervous system. After that, they make a diagnosis and work together with the patient in coming up with a management plan for treatment and recovery. Psychiatrists also can provide medications for mental illnesses or disorders. In case the nervous system was adversely damaged, recovering from it and the trauma will take a long time. Therefore, psychiatrists play a significant role in managing long-term conditions through therapy sessions as well as medications for mental diseases.
A psychiatrist can work with the patient from home to monitor the recovery process of the patient. This enables the psychiatrist to get information from the relatives and family members about the patient. The data acquired is used by the psychiatrist during therapy sessions with the patient. The information should be positive such as rich and memorable experiences that the patient had encountered earlier before. This helps the patient forget about the traumatic experience from the severe car accident. The patient could laugh out the traumatic burdens from his or her heart, such as stress and other psychological problems.
After a traumatic experience such as an adverse car accident that damaged someone's nervous system, this results in various psychological disorders such as depression. Psychiatrists are the most suitable medical practitioners who will help such patients in tackling psychological problems (Page, 2017). Depression arises when the patients vividly recall the traumatic experience. As a result, the patient resolves into acting abnormally with an attempt of trying to forget the experience that is fresh in their minds. Therapy sessions will help curb depressive thoughts that the patient is struggling with. Psychiatrists offer these therapy sessions, and it is during such sessions when the patients are reminded of the past enjoyable experiences as earlier stated. This will help them forget the traumatic experiences crisscrossing their minds.
Patients who have mental conditions such as damage to the nervous systems usually feel like an outcast since they cannot be productive anymore in society. Such negative thoughts generate suicidal thoughts because the patients feel useless and less important. This results in pity, and some of these patients might end up committing suicide if precautionary measures are not implemented as early as possible. These preventive measures include therapy sessions between the psychiatrist and the patient.
The psychiatrist plays the primary role in convincing the patient that committing suicide is not the best option since it will also affect their family members, relatives, and loved ones.
Some mental illnesses that involve the damaged nervous system require specialized neurosurgeons who will carry out careful surgeries that are, when the nerves, spinal cord, or any other complex organs were destroyed through a severe car accident (Frounchis et al. 2017). Therefore, the family members should consider visiting a professional psychiatrist who will refer them to a professional neurosurgeon who will perform careful surgical procedures. The family members can as well ask the psychiatrist to refer them to a neurosurgeon who will not charge them expensively as well as one who would not compromise the life of their patient. The psychiatrists offer such services, and they also communicate with the professional neurosurgeons as well as advising them on how to handle mental disorders procedures best. As a result, the pa...
