CancerCare has existed for the last 75 years to give hope to cancer patients, caregivers, loved ones, and children. The group primarily offers support to the members. Joining the group entails undertaking an online registration process. Once the registration is approved, members get a password. Using the login details, members can read and post messages 24/7. On this particular day, CancerCare decided to organize a one-on-one meeting with some of the members. I was privileged to attend and participate in the conference.
The meeting had two main agendas. Firstly, the group wanted to provide crucial information to the members. CancerCare appreciated the need to inform the members about the available treatments, coping mechanisms, and how to offer care to people living with cancer. The organization wanted to ensure that all the members present got information on living with cancer. The information targeted not only the patients but also survivors, family members and friends living with cancer patients. The second agenda entailed bringing people together affected by cancer in one way or another. The group wanted the members to interact with fellow survivors, hear inspiring stories and ask questions and get answers.
I learned that belonging to a support group is critical to breast cancer survivors.
